The Superb Benefits of ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic Sheet

Some materials deserve to be put on a pedestal, and we happen to think that ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic Sheeting is one of them. This versatile, functional and high-performing cast acrylic sheet is used in a whole range of applications and products, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to tell you a bit about this wonder material and just why we think it’s so superb…

Overview

ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic Sheet is a consistent, high quality durable plastic sheeting that’s made from 100% virgin MMA (Methyl Methacrylate Monomer). Since it was first invented back in 1877 by German chemist, Wilhelm Rudolph Fitig, there has been a steady development of acrylic from concept to commercial products. ASTARIGLAS® is a brand name of Astari which has been producing premium grade cast acrylic sheets since 1980. It has an enviable reputation as being one of the highest-quality acrylics on the market, and we happen to think that reputation is entirely deserved.

Acrylic sheeting is manufactured in two common processes: Cast or extruded. Cast acrylic sheet is produced through the polymerization of MMA using two sheets of high-precision specialty glass as the casting frames. Extruded acrylic sheet is made in a continuous extrusion process by feeding PMMA resin into the extrusion machine.

ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic Sheet has better properties compared to extruded sheet.

Cast vs Extruded Acrylic Sheets

Why Use It?

There are plenty of reasons to use this material in manufacturing, with just a few benefits of ASTARIGLAS® being:

1. Exceptional light transmission with virtually no colour bias
Even in thick blocks, ASTARIGLAS® Crystal Clear transmits 92% of all visible light; No other product offers better light transmission – not even glass.

2. Excellent chemical & craze resistance.
ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic sheet has 3-4 times higher molecular weight compared to extruded, hence the sheet has better chemical and craze resistance.

3. Excellent resistance to outdoor weathering.
A ten-year weathering guarantee is offered on the outdoor performance of the standard ASTARIGLAS® sheet. No significant change in visual appearance or physical performance will take place during ten years outdoors.

4. Continuous service temperature.
The continuous service temperature of ASTARIGLAS® Cast Acrylic Sheet is 85°C. This will enable it to retain its mechanical properties (tensile & impact strength, dimensional stability, etc.) in very hot conditions.

5. Lightweight.
ASTARIGLAS® is half the weight of an equivalent glass panel and is more easily transported, installed and supported.

6. Easy to clean.
The high gloss surface of ASTARIGLAS® makes it easy to clean, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.

Bonus:

  • Eco friendly – ASTARIGLAS® is 100% recyclable
  • Our ASTARIGLAS® acrylics are available in an extensive range of standard colours & finishes to suit different applications, and the colour won’t fade either
  • We Offer Competitive Pricing compared to other similar brands
  • Highly versatile – can be moulded to suit individual requirements
